Did you catch this week’s Register Guard article on the recent sale of Eugene’s little slice of San Francisco, Broadway Place? As a graduate student at the UO in 2000, who had lived in London and NY, I remember heading to the Broadway Place Bene Pizza on weekends. I nicknamed the development “San Francisco”, because it was the only place in Eugene where I felt as though I lived in a real City; at least for one block.
Apparently, I was right about its appeal to our cosmopolitan neighbors to the south. A California investment firm has picked up this mixed use development for $30 million! The former owners, Scottsdale, Ariz. based Wolff Co. netted a cool $12 million over the $18 million they paid for it in 2013. The Californian’s aren’t coming my friends, they have arrived! And thankfully, at least for this city girl, Eugene’s Downtown has finally grown up to meet Broadway Place’s lofty mixed use goals, and thoughtful design.
What’s your opinion on how this sale will impact the value of housing in our community?
